It was back to Wish Park this week after Gypsy's had camped out on Waterhall desperate to see F&O live in action. The dramatic late move to Wish Park scuppered their hopes of seeing some of the star names this week as two experienced line ups went to battle.
Some overhead smoke from the Lewes fire barely blemished the clear blue sky with temperatures still in the early twenties both teams knew they would have to pace themselves. The first ten minutes were tight with both teams playing some nice football, but only two shots on goal during this time, one from each side. The first goal came around the quarter of an hour mark. Eason slipped a ball into Beebee who turned and fired home for 1-0. Just before the 3rd keeper change Hunt had levelled. A first time side foot just staying within the bar and post. There was a brief discussion around the goal but the everyone was in agreement that it should stand for 1-1. White escaped down the left and squared for Green to wonderfully improvise with a back flick into the goal for 2-1. It was back level pegging when Beebee played an exquisite ball through for Bahrami to roll back the years and on the stretch poke the ball home on the volley past Green in goal. The portly Iranian was having a fine first half with some good crossing and hold up play and Abram was struggling to contain the middle eastern live wire. A turning point was Lamprell's stint in goal, with keeping right out of the Dan Voss coaching manual 3 goals went in under his watch. I'm not sure of the order but certainly on at least two he should have done better. One from Tricker went through him and a cross went directly in. Bibs went 4-3 up but the keeping errors were not exclusively for skins with Mitchell producing a grotesque piece of goal keeping to allow a Wilson daisy cutter under his foot. He could not blame his hair in his eyes with a Patrick Berger hair band he must of bought from Claire's Accessories during his lunch break. Bibs made it 5-3 with the last kick of the half but they knew they had to defend the hill. Bahrami was unhappy that 3 or 4 of the 5 first half bibs goals were debatable and made is feelings known to all that could be bothered to listen. Goals were exchanged for 6-4 and then Tricker produced another shocker in goal. A routine cross was fumbled into his own net for 6-5. The goal for bibs came after a piece of statuesque goal keeping from Bahrami after a Green shot I think. Seconds later and my favourite moment of the match was when bibs lost possession cheaply and Greenwood sounding like Graham Taylor against Holland said "We've fucked this right up, We're fucked" as Beebee went through unopposed only to see his shot hit the post and rebound out for a goal kick. 6-5 and skins pressed. Seen was getting chopped down regularly as he ran at the heart of the defence. It took some fine slides from the one cap Abram to prevent opportunities too. Hunt & Mitchell were defending some late corners well and Ridley as always was doing his best to kill the clock desperate for the win. Predictably it was another keeping error which sealed the scoring a weak Tricker effort some how eluded Beebee after he presumed Green would get a touch. 7-5 and a fine game, although some keeping manuals will need to be read before next week. MOTM - Neil White - Covered huge amounts of ground and also produced the quality in the final third when required. Some good displays throughout both teams with Greenwood probably running Whitey closest for the magnum of Perrier Jouet.
