The lights were out for this eagerly anticipated clash of styles at BACA last night. It took the newest member of the 100 club Steve (bald) to find the switch to power up the Falmer floodlights, as the proud F&O run of 38 consecutive months of Thursday football was almost ended.

With the later than expected start it meant Matt Green replacing Kev Virgo missed none of the action, as on paper at least two evenly matched sides went at it. The start was even enough with Skins probing but not really testing Tricker in goal, who none the less was proud of his clean sheet.

He was prouder seconds later when with his first touch he beat his man and fired powerfully on target straight through Rich Lamprell who will not want to see the replays on the F&O You Tube channel.

Bibs then begun to get on top and almost doubled their lead on a number of occasions but for wasteful finishing.

They were made to pay when Skins for once got their pressing game spot on and Brenchley charged down keeper White for the equaliser.

1-1 and the game had changed and now Skins were on top. They had a few decent chances Brench and Greenwood uncharacteristically missing the target.

Brench and Bahrami put in a couple of inviting crosses but they just eluded the striker on each occasion.

A moment of magic from Beebee saw Bibs regain the lead as he finished beautifully to round off a great first 25 minutes for the striker who was revelling in his midfield position.

The scorer became creator moments later when a run down the left hand side saw his cross reach Eason who had to adjust and use his useless left foot to guide the ball home on the volley into the roof of the net. Another fine goal from Bibs who were now starting to turn on the style.

Bibs had shape and organisation whereas Skins were now all over the shop making tactical changes by the second it seemed.

Bibs were now rampant and some of the possession football was top draw and the young girls on the nearby pitch were in awe of the pace, power and precision of this bibs team.

Tricker grabbed two more for 4-1 and 5-1. And then the script was complete when (bald) after another lovely move made it 6-1 to further rub salt into Skins wounds.

Bibs kept that intensity up Ridley having a fine game at the back, and when Curry threatened to escape, 50 year old Ridey produced an X-Rated challenge to fell the tricky winger.

Brenchley used brute force to create his and Skins second goal for himself and deny Wilson a much needed confidence boosting clean sheet, but that was the final action of the game and a resounding victory for Bibs 6-2.

There was a lovely moment after the game when devout Muslim Bahrami presented the cap to skinhead Steve in the biggest display of racial unity since ebony and ivory was released in the 80’s. Fat & Old once again breaking down barriers, a beacon of inclusivity.

MOTM - Wes Eason - After recovering from Amir's shoulder smash he went onto score the crucial third and assisted on two occasions for Tricker. Talk Sports Peter Reid described it as "The complete midfield performance"

New era at BACA

A new era of F&O football begun at BACA Thursday as the new winter pitch looks set to host 7 months of turbo charged soccer.

With only 60 minutes available the pitch was quickly set up with a late change in the teams with John the Hat replacing Colin who had pulled his back only 2 hours before kick-off in his garden!

Skins started much the brighter and they dominated the early stages with plenty of possession and the odd pot shot but no telling chances.

Greenwood who was revelling in the space afforded to him in midfield was closed down far too late and his drive was deflected in off Eason which wrong footed Hunt who may have had it covered.

1-0 and it was no more than Skins deserved.

Bahrami had a shot turned over by Virgo who was enjoying the short goals.

Steve (Bald) missed a golden opportunity to equalise when he couldn’t turn the ball home from two yards with the goal gaping.

It took a trademark Wilson long ball to break the deadlock. He chipped into the box from deep inside his own half and when Green and one other challenged Macleod the ball went straight into the goal for 1-1.

Skins who had looked so comfortable up until this point started to show some signs of weakness.

They could however had gone back ahead when Macleod with a terrific back heel released Greenwood who fired straight at the keeper.

It was two moments of magic which gave Bibs their two goal lead as they completely turned the game around.

First the ever willing White chased the ball and back heeled to Hunt just before it went out for a throw. From then it was all about the Hunt finish as he slammed the ball home into the corner from 18 yards.

Not to be out done White scored a goal at least its equal when he turned and fired in past Ridley.

Skins were shell shocked and looked to mount a comeback. Curry & Tricker forced saves from the bibs keeper and the Greenwood hit a ferocious rocket which was palmed over by Bahrami.

The Iranian was feeling pretty cocky at this point and gave Greenwood some verbal’s which immediately back fired when a corner flashed into the Bibs area and Greenwood first time steered the ball home from close range. 3-2 and the game was back on.

Eason had a diving header cleared off the line when he stooped low from a Hat corner. The resulting set piece again from The Hat was again met by Eason but this time the header went wide.

With Bibs killing the clock it was decided to add on 5 minutes of stoppage time taking us up to 9:06. Nervy times for bibs but they managed to restrict Skins to just two Tricker efforts which both missed the target. Game over and a tight and enjoyable start to life at BACA. Skins players weren’t happy at the end and there was some sombre moods and faces as they made the long trudge to the car park.

MOTM – Danny Greenwood a 3rd MOTM in 4 games for the rejuvenated midfield maestro. Bibs struggled to cope all game with his passing and movement rounded of by two goals.
