Battle of the Werthers

An eventful pre-match build up saw a late venue change and 'King of the Tufty' Colin turn up uninvited to save the day as Ashley failed to show. Like a pig in shit Colin revels in a high degree of tuftyness and he rolled back the years as he produced a commanding defensive display in the knee high grass.

With the match kicking off later than expected the match was reduced to 64 minutes at 8 minutes per keeper.

It was Curry picking the ball out of the net first when legendary goal poacher Macleod ran into the ball and deflected the ball in after only a few minutes on the clock.

It was another very even F&O match with both sides doing their best to combat the lengthy grass.

White had a decent claim for a goal ruled out when his shot went through Virgo's hands who was struggling in the chest high grass. In fairness I had a good view and it was marginally over.

At the other end Beebee had another marginal one ruled out. This one too looked close but after much debate this goal was also ruled out.

Beebee was dazzling in the early moments and was a major concern for bibs defenders. Drifting deep he was linking up well with Curry and Deen and it was that quality link up play which created the chance for Ridley to finish for the leveller.

Skins were edging it now and creating chances, particularly with the revered right foot diagonal from Wilson to Curry. Approaching half time Beebee again found space and his shot come cross was swept home by Tricker for 2-1.

Half time 2-1 with the briefest of end swaps as the light was already deteriorating.

Only 3 minutes into the restart the Hat somehow missed an open goal on the goal line, but such was the ridiculousness of the miss the ball stayed in on the bye-line. Some quick thinking saw the Hat redeem himself with a pull back for Green who struck through a Skins jungle of limbs. 2-2 and game on.

The winner came with 20 minutes to go and it was a moment of magic from the Mitchell's. Jason drubbing forward from defence beckoned his offspring to make a forward run and that the youngster did as he was found with a inch perfect ball by his old man through the tufty grass.

In on goal he managed to finish just in off the post as the ball seem to take an agonising age to go in, much to skins disappointment.

Both teams hit the post in a frantic finale one was a Green header which hit his own post.

Eason had to make a one handed save past the post when debutant Nik Baker only 26 but qualifying through ballast headed towards the bottom corner.

Skins kept pushing but Josh again in goal was equal to any efforts coming his way.

Harley too was influential throughout and won a number of headers and kept a calm head as Skins laid siege.

With the light fading the game was over and another tight nail biter for F&O fans at Waterhall.

MOTM - Colin Harley thank the lord the eccentric veteran was there as Ashley no showed. It was 50 year old for 50 year old as him and Pete swapped teams and it was Colin who came up top in the battle of the Werther's.
